Northern California fishing report

ANDERSON: Bass are found in deeper water. Drop-shot or drag Baby Brush Hogs over rock piles. 408-927-9144, 408-463-0711.

CAMANCHE: Catfish bite is solid and trout are being taken 30 to 35 feet below the surface with bait or trolled lures. 209-763-5915, 209-763-5166.

CALERO: Punching or morning topwater offerings attract bass. Some have been to 5 and 6 pounds. 408-268-3883, 408-463-0711.

CHESBRO: The crappie bite has been good early morning and late afternoon. Use small, live minnows. Bass bite is decent for those dart-heading grubs. 408-358-3741, 408-463-0711.

CLEAR: A variety of jigs, Senkos and lipless crank baits worked during a weekend bass tournament. Mid lake has been the best in water from 20 to 3 feet. 707-994-3474, 707-279-4739.

COYOTE: The few going out are having sporadic action. Fish off deep points or rocky points. Most bass are small but every once in a while there can be a hefty surprise. 408-463-0711.

DEL VALLE: Stripers are in the lower narrows and the dam. Catfish to 14 pounds are being caught in the lower narrows. An albino catfish weighing 12 pounds was caught last week. Trout remain deep and hard to hook. Smallmouth have been active near the dam. 925-449-5201.

LAKE SAN ANTONIO: It's slow. There have been shad around the marina but few anglers are venturing out. 805-472-2818, 800-310-2313.

LOCH LOMOND: This lake is open on weekends through Oct. 10, McALPINE: Trout fishing is good with Power Bait. Bass take frogs while catfish remain in deep water waiting for nightcrawlers. 831-623-4263.

PARKWAY: Fishing continues to be good, best fishing is still pretty late (8 p.m. to midnight). The best bait are mackerel or anchovies and G&S cheese bait at night. They are catching some cats and a ton of blue gill during the day on crawlers. Best areas are the peninsula and the back cove. Catfish plant went in Wednesday. Trout will not be planted until the end of October. 408-629-9111.

PARDEE: Trout are caught 35 to 50 feet deep. Catfish have been biting in the south end and in Mel's Cove. This lake closes Oct. 31. 209-772-8108.

SAN LUIS RESERVOIR: Trolling in the big lake has been improving. Kastmasters, broken back Rapalas and Rebels get stripers. There's a topwater bite in the morning. In the fore bay the best tactic has been topwater lures in the morning and small flukes throughout the day. 408-463-0711.

UVAS: Catfish and bass bite have been decent. Crappie should start biting soon. 408-463-0711.

DELTA

BENICIA: Salmon are being caught at low and high tide. Best bite has been at Dillons Point, where 10 to 12 per day are being landed. An average of four per day from First Street. Shore anglers throwing hair raisers, grass shrimp and pile worms get striped bass from Ninth Street and 12th Street. 707-745-4921.

FRANK'S TRACT: Striped bass are hitting 5- and 6-inch white swim baits in False River. Black bass are hitting tube baits in the outer sloughs. 925-625-2441.

PITTSBURG: Striped bass, sturgeon and salmon are being caught here. Sturgeon are at Channel Island and the PG&E factory. Striped bass are bite near Chip Island on bullhead. 925-252-0151.

RIO VISTA: The powerlines also have been good for stripers. Most of the striped bass are small -- 5 to 8 pounds. Salmon has been quite slow. 707-374-2372.

SALTWATER

BERKELEY: The El Dorado on Sunday had 25 lings at the Islands for 16 anglers plus limits of rock cod. Halibut bite has improved. Weather has forced cancellation of albacore. Next trip is Sunday. The Happy Hooker has been getting halibut and ling cod on its pot luck trips. 510-849-3333, 510-223-5388, 707-334-4827, 925-437-2766.

CAPITOLA: A striper and halibut were caught from the pier Saturday. Surf casters using plastic grubs are getting stripers south of Capitola. Sardines and anchovies are near the Capitola Pier. Rock cod boats do fair in shallow water. 831-462-2208.

MONTEREY: Sea bass trips average six per boat for 10 anglers. Rock cod boats have been staying local for limits of cod. 831-375-5951, 831-372-7440.

PACIFICA: All is slow on the beaches and few are on the pier. Crab season opens Nov. 6. 650-355-8303, 650-359-9790.

PILLAR POINT: It was all limits Saturday for the Half Moon Bay fleet. Highlight was a 13-pound cabezon. Sunday's weather was rough. Fishing improved Monday and Tuesday and it was limits again. 650-726-7133, 650-726-2913.

SANTA CRUZ: Capt. Jimmy has been hitting Seaside for white sea bass. Last trip had three weighing 51, 48 and 44 pounds. Offshore weather has been too rough for albacore trips. 831-662-3020, 831-427-2334.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY: Halibut to 32 inches are showing near the A-Frame near Hunters Point and off Brisbane. Perch bite continues to be good off Oyster Point Pier. 650-589-3474, 510-703-4148.
