The tournament is being coordinated again this year in partnership with CATCH Ministry and the Cleveland Bassmasters. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society. Registration will be held today, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., at Fishtales on Georgetown Road or Smokey Mountain Tackle on 25th Street Registration will also be the morning of the event at Gasshopper Creek. Breakfast and lunch will be available at the tournament.
CATCH, an acronym for Christian Anglers Together Can Help, is a nonprofit parachurch organization which began in June of 2006 and is based in Cleveland. Kevin Johnson, president of CATCH, said, “If you haven’t been personally touched by the effects of cancer in your life, your friends or by a relative, you soon will be. We have to find a cure for this dreadful disease. CATCH is here to reach out to our community and we are excited to raise money for the American Cancer Society.”
The Cleveland Bassmasters have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars since 1976 with their Partnership for Healthy Children Tournament. “We want to help with this Relay for Life tournament because this is for a good cause and we feel strongly about helping people. We encourage all of the area fisherman to get out and support this worthy cause in the fight against cancer.”
The Fishing for a Cure tournament is open to males and females. At registration, each fisherman will be asked to fish either “in honor of” or “in memory of” a friend or relative that has battled cancer. At least one person in the boat must be 18 years of age. An eligible boat may contain one or two fishermen.
The tournament entry fee is $60 per boat with $30 going to the prize fund, $20 to the ACS and $10 to the Big Fish Fund. Additional donations to the American Cancer Society are greatly appreciated.
